Nelson Mandela’s successful struggle against South Africa’s apartheid system of racial segregation and discrimination made him a worldwide symbol for the cause of human rights. After spending 27 years in prison he went on to become South Africa’s first black President and won a Nobel Peace Prize. Through his accomplishments, it’s clear he made the most of his 95 years on earth. Nelson Mandela will truly be missed. In honor of his wonderfully inspiring life, we’ve created an original portrait of him along with our top 10 favorite Mandela quotes:

1.) “It always seems impossible until its done.”

3.) “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.”
