Q&A with Elizabeth Berry – Mixed Nation’s Beauty Blogger!

Hi, I’m Elizabeth Berry and I run the YouTube channel and blog, Berry Beautiful. My videos are on hair, beauty, fashion, and even advice. I have had a YouTube channel for a few years now but recently started the blog so that I can branch out on other topics. I love talking about my experiences in college and will be transferring to the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL soon. Being mixed has always been a big part of my life, especially since both of my parents are mixed; I have family members of all different backgrounds and love meeting and learning more about different people in this vast world we live in! Check out my links and leave a comment if you have any questions or requests!

MN: What’s your age?

EB: I turned 22 on May 22nd so that makes me a Gemini.

MN: What’s your hometown?

EB: I’m from the small but proud town of Lake Placid, FL.

MN: What is your background?

EB: Black and White. Both of my parents are mixed race Jamaican Americans.

MN: When did you first become interested in beauty?

EB: I have been interested in beauty since at least 5 years old! I remember going into all of my mom’s make up and trying on her heels. In high school was when I became more interested; I wanted to be a fashion designer and had a sketch book with all the dresses I designed; beauty goes hand in hand with fashion so once I started drawing clothing I realized you need to complete the whole look. Once I got to college, I wanted to buy every type of make up just to see what worked well with me and was able to do a lot of that by purchasing Avon products through my mom.

MN: Who are some of your celebrity style/beauty inspirations?

EB: My all time idol is Halle Berry! I also love Shakira, Noémie Lenoir, Zoë Saldaña, Gwen Stefani, and Thammy Caldeira.

MN: What inspired you to start video blogging?

EB: When I first came across YouTube, I was in high school and had no idea how to take care of my big curly hair. I searched for videos to show me what products to try and how to manage it. At the time, there were very few girls with curly hair on YouTube so I decided to share my knowledge, through trial and error, of how to take care of curls! I then branched out to make up and clothing when subscribers requested make up tutorials.

MN: What is your favorite clothing trend of the summer?

EB: Crop tops are my favorite summer staple! They are so easy because air flows through them since they are loose fitting which means sweat won’t show up. Florida is pretty warm all year round but crop tops can be worn in early fall and late spring with jeans for those that live in a cooler climate.

MN: What do you love about Mixed Nation?

EB: I love that Mixed Nation promotes multiculturalism and diversity of all cultures. Some websites stick to a few cultures or nationalities, but Mixed Nation makes sure to include everyone! Learning about new cultures is exciting and needed because we live in a global society; we have to learn about our differences and learn to love everyone so we can all live in peace and work together for a better tomorrow.
